FairRev Upsells and bundles for Shopify, billed only on revenue we can prove we generated.

What the app does

Offer types, where they appear, how they are targeted, and an honest list of what is not in this release.

Offer types

  • Product add on
  • Cross sell
  • Fixed bundle
  • Quantity breaks
  • Buy X get Y
  • Free gift
  • Sellable add ons: gift wrap, warranty, shipping protection

Where they appear

Product page, cart page, and cart drawer.

How you target them

An offer can be shown based on what is in the cart and how big the cart is:

  • A particular product in the cart
  • A particular variant in the cart
  • Cart value
  • Cart quantity

That is the whole list for this release, and it is the whole list on purpose. The offer builder will not let you configure a rule the storefront cannot evaluate, because an offer that is configured and then silently never shows is worse than one you could not build. Targeting by collection membership, and by Shopify customer segment, are not here yet. Both need information the storefront does not have at the moment the offer is decided, so both are a later release rather than a switch we forgot to turn on.

How the discount is applied

Through a Shopify discount function driven by a cart attribute, not through discount codes.

This sounds like an implementation detail and it is not. Code based upsell apps leak their codes into the coupon field, where shoppers find them, share them, and use them on orders the offer had nothing to do with. Nothing we create goes anywhere near that field.

Things that only matter once you are using it

You publish every offer. Nothing we generate goes live on your storefront by itself.

Every version of an offer is kept. You can roll a change back, and a charge from three months ago can still be explained by the configuration that actually produced it rather than by whatever the offer says today.

Orders we touched are tagged in your Shopify admin, with the offer that did it. That exists so you can check our billing without trusting our dashboard.

Right to left and left to right from the first release, with every string translatable. Not a later release, and not a partial one.

Not in this release

These are real and they are not built. We would rather you read that here than find out after installing.

Post purchase and thank you page offers. One caveat we will not leave out: the one click post purchase page only appears when the shopper paid with a vaulted card processor. Instalment services, most wallets, gift cards and cash on delivery all suppress it. That is a Shopify platform rule and it applies to every app in this category, including the ones that advertise the feature without mentioning it. Whatever your conversion rate on that page turns out to be, it applies to a fraction of your orders and not to all of them.

Subscription upsell. When it ships, we bill on the first order only, never on the renewals, because we did not cause the renewals.

A/B testing. Product recommendations chosen by a model. Shopify Markets and multi currency. The measured lift control group, which is the part we are most interested in: an opt in holdout that tells you what the app actually added, shown beside the attributed number rather than blended into it.

Not planned at all

Checkout upsells are Shopify Plus only and are not in this release.

Paid third party offer placements, the kind that pay you per order for showing somebody else's product in your cart, are not something we will build. An app whose argument is honest billing should not also be running an ad network inside your checkout.
