Shopify Buy X get Y: define and test your reward rule

Buy X get Y describes a qualifying purchase and a reward. The exact quantities, eligible products and discount matter. This guide helps you define the promotion, test its boundaries and distinguish it from a cart-value gift. FairRev has Buy X get Y configuration and reward calculations, but a complete shopper-to-checkout demonstration is not yet available. Confirm the exact rule with support before using it.

Understand qualifying purchases and reward rules

Define X and Y in plain language before choosing the offer. State which products qualify, how many must be bought, which variant is rewarded and whether the reward is free or discounted. A same-product BOGO and a different-product gift are different configurations.

The existence of a Buy X get Y type does not establish every BOGO variation, repeated reward, cheapest-item rule or mixed-product combination. The builder has tiers and reward quantities; the actual configuration and cart must determine the supported rule.

Work through a Buy X get Y shopper example

A hypothetical rule might offer a selected accessory after a specified qualifying quantity is present. The shopper needs to know what to add and what action claims the reward. That example is a test design, not a verified FairRev promotion.

Evaluate the exact configuration, eligible cart, reward action and final checkout together. Also test the ineligible boundary. A general add-on demonstration does not establish a Buy X get Y reward rule.

Configure and test the offer

The builder exposes Buy X get Y with tier minimums, reward quantities and discounts. Prepare a rule table that distinguishes qualifying units from reward units. The Function has a dedicated reward calculation; the widget's tier selection and preview still need to be checked against it.

Test below, at and above the threshold. Repeat with the reward variant already in the basket and with multiple qualifying variants. Remove a qualifying unit after acceptance and inspect the reward price again. Do not assume the reward disappears automatically or repeats without limit.

For native discount rules, consult Shopify's Buy X get Y documentation, checked 15 October 2026. Platform instructions are not proof that FairRev reproduces every native option. The page must document only the verified FairRev rule.

Check placements and limitations

Product, cart and drawer placement controls exist. The qualifying rule should be intelligible at the chosen moment, and the theme must provide an appropriate app block or drawer adapter. Each claimed placement needs a real journey test.

Verify repeated acceptance, stock, checkout prices, mobile behavior and discount combinations. FairRev's reward preview and checkout agreement still need a complete demonstration. Do not promise the promotion to shoppers until those amounts match for the intended quantities.

Compare Buy X get Y with free gift offers

A gift tied to cart value can answer a different promotion question from a reward tied to product quantities. Compare free gift with purchase Shopify eligibility before choosing. Neither workflow should imply that the app automatically selects or removes a gift without evidence.

Choose the simplest rule a shopper can understand and the store can fulfill. If a native discount meets the requirement, there is no reason to select an app solely because its type label resembles the promotion.

Review pricing and attributed billing

FairRev pricing describes the conditional free allowance and paid minimum and ceiling. FairRev attribution matches accepted offered variants to eligible order lines. It does not automatically assign the qualifying basket to a reward or equate attribution with causal lift.

Contact [email protected] about availability. Share your qualifying products, reward variants, quantities and placement, and request a demonstration through checkout. Confirm repeated-reward and changed-cart behavior explicitly; support for every BOGO variation is not established.
